Manchester United have been linked with two new forwards, while Sergio Aguero has apparently expressed a willingness to finish his career at Manchester City.
MAN UTD IN POLE POSITION TO SIGN AUBAMEYANG
Manchester United will pursue a £60million deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer – regardless of who is in charge at Old Trafford.
It was reported last week that United were interested in Aubameyang, and now The Independent says ‘efforts have already been made to move United into pole position’ to sign the 26-year-old, who is ‘also a leading target for Arsenal’.
The newspaper adds that while United have previously been reluctant to sign African players because of the prospect of losing them to African Cup of Nations commitments, the club is now ready to widen its net.
Any manager will have the final say on signings, it is said, but chief scout Jim Lawler is apparently busy identifying targets, with United acknowledging they cannot afford to wait until the summer to make approaches for players of Aubameyang’s quality.
With that in mind, United have apparently stressed their ability to develop Aubameyang’s image and commercial power should he move to Old Trafford.
AGUERO WILLING TO RETIRE AT MAN CITY
Sergio Aguero has told Manchester City he is willing to see out his career at the Etihad Stadium, reports The Independent.
The Argentina striker, 27, is set to sign a contract extension until 2020, the newspaper says, and is now prepared to stay until he retires despite previously expressing a desire to move back to Spain at some stage.
Aguero’s show of commitment makes it less likely City will pursue strike options like Robert Lewandowski, it is said, with incoming manager Pep Guardiola likely to prioritise midfield signings.
