ARSENAL BRACED FOR £25M OX BID

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is preparing a £25m bid for Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The report claims Pep “is ready to pounce on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Arsenal contract stand-off”.

Chamberlain has 18 months left on his Emirates deal, but unlike Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal have not held any preliminary contract talks and the player is set to consider his options in January.

Guardiola is believed to be an admirer of the 23-year-old and is now ready to try and lure him away from the capital after the injury to Ilkay Gundogan, who has been ruled out for the season.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has warned suitors off his players and has spoken about the club’s strengthened financial position.

Wenger said: “We can keep our players. We are financially much more competitive than we were before.”

ZLATAN READY TO SNUB CHINA MOVE

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to turn down a £120m offer from the Chinese Super League.

The 35-year-old, who took his goal tally to 16 goals in 25 games with a double in the win over West Brom on Saturday, is set to take United up on another year at old Trafford and snub the money from China.

The Mail on Sunday report that the Chinese government were willing to bankroll a £56m-a-year deal for the Swedish superstar in the summer and his exploits at Old Trafford have made them even more determined to get their man.

“They have increased their offer which would include a fee for United,” according to the report, but Jose Mourinho has already stated last month that he wants to extend the player’s deal until 2018.

Mourinho said: “We are going to execute the option of a second season. After that he can do what he wants.”

Ibrahimovic signed a one-year deal, with an option of a further 12 months, when he joined on a Bosman free transfer from French champions Paris Saint-Germain in July.

And the Swede “is happy to stay for another season beyond this one”.
