Pardew rubbishes Krul link

Some newspapers claimed on Wednesday that Netherlands international Krul was being lined up for a move to Selhurst Park, but Pardew ruled out signing a goalkeeper at all this summer, putting his faith in Julian Speroni and Wayne Hennessey.

On the transfer speculation, the former Magpies manager said: “I’m surprised at that because there’s been no contact between me and Newcastle, and certainly there’s been no contact between me and the player or the agents who represent him.

“I don’t know where that’s come from, and quite frankly it’s unwelcome really. I have a great situation with my goalies here.

“Tim Krul is a great goalie but he’s a Newcastle goalie and I’m pretty confident that’s where he’ll stay.

“So I don’t understand that, but as far as we’re concerned we’re looking at a number of players for next year, but at the moment not the goalkeeping position.”

Argentine Speroni has been at Palace since 2004, but at 35 remains in excellent form and is not expected to be leaving the club any time soon.

Speroni is gearing up for his testimonial match against former club Dundee, at Selhurst Park on May 26, and Pardew has hailed his impact at the south London club.

“He’s not just been a great servant as a player and a technician for the football club, but he’s one of the true gents of the game,” said Pardew.

“Being an old Corinthian myself, he definitely takes that spirit into the way he plays. If he knocks someone over he’ll be the first there to pick them up and offer them some sympathy.

“He’s been a fantastic player, he’s loved at this football club, and we love him.”
