Pep Guardiola: Witnesses big win

Pep Guardiola has described a 1-1 home draw with Everton as “one of the proudest days” in his life.

Wayne Rooney scored for Everton but ten-man City battled back, equalising through Raheem Sterling before the visitors themselves went down to ten.

Sergio Aguero wasted a fine chance and David Silva hit the post before Rooney opened the scoring.

Calvert-Lewin did all the hard work, teeing up the onrushing Rooney who slotted home through the legs of Ederson from 10 yards.

Walker was then sent off just before the break for two bookings in quick succession, the first for a foul on Leighton Baines and a harsh second for colliding with Calvert-Lewin.

Pep Guardiola, who takes his side to play Bournemouth on Saturday, refused to be drawn on the decision.

“Next question please,” said the City manager. “I want to be in Bournemouth.”

City piled on the pressure in the second half and were rewarded when Sterling lashed home a volley with eight minutes left.

Guardiola added: “It is one of the proudest days in my life to see how we’ve done, the way we’ve done it, 10 against 11.

“It was a good performance, it was similar to last season when we played them here (a 1-1 draw in October).

“We created the chances but we didn’t finish. We have to keep trying to create the chances.

“We have done everything, I don’t know how many chances we created, I don’t know how many chances they created with 10 versus 11.”
