Mauricio Pochettino: Positive mental attitude

Mauricio Pochettino has said Tottenham’s win against Chelsea still speaks volumes as they look to close down a nine-point gap at the top.

The Spurs boss was speaking after witnessing a narrow 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough and has told his players to not give up hope of toppling the Blues.

“I am not frustrated, we need to understand that from September they have only lost once, against us. That speaks well about us,” Pochettino told reporters.

“At the same time we have to believe. We need to believe always.”

On the Middlesbrough game itself, Pochettino said a familiar pattern is emerging and is thankful that his side were still able to control proceedings.

He added: “I think in the last few games the opponents have played very deep and closed the gaps, difficult to break down. It’s important the control we showed today and the chances we created.

“I don’t think they had a shot on target which is also important. I think we showed we were much better and deserved the win.

“When you don’t kill the game you leave it open. In the last second you can concede, that’s the Premier League. Thankfully it didn’t and we are happy.”
