Pochettino reacts to Tottenham win without injured Vertonghen

Mauricio Pochettino hailed Tottenham’s resolve as Harry Kane’s late winner gave his side a narrow 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The visitors dominated at Selhurst Park but a combination of wasted chances and some fine goalkeeping from Wayne Hennessey left them frustrated until Kane popped up in the 89th minute to head the winner.

“When you are involved in the game, always you are thinking about the next time,” Pochettino told reporters in his post-match interview.

“In the end we deserved the victory. We fully deserved [it] and had the chance.

“The performance was good. It wasn’t easy to play here. In the end the three points was the most important [thing]. The team will never give up.”

Spurs now turn their attentions to Wednesday night’s FA Cup replay with Rochdale at Wembley, a game which is likely to see Jan Vertonghen miss out again.

The defensive stalwart joined fellow Belgian Toby Alderweireld on the sidelines at Selhurst Park after suffering  what has been described as a ‘heavy’ ankle injury in training on Saturday.
