Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly close to agreeing a new Tottenham contract – and has been linked with a £25million move for Jordan Henderson.
It was reported earlier this month that Pochettino was the subject of an approach from Chelsea, but The Sun on Sunday says the Argentine was worried he would not be given the necessary time to build by Blues owner Roman Abramovich.
Pochettino is apparently instead set to sign a new three-year deal at White Hart Lane which will see his salary upped by around £1million a year to £4.5million.
Manchester United are also said to be admirers of Pochettino but have not gone as far as making contact, with Jose Mourinho the firm favourite to take over at Old Trafford, while Italy coach Antonio Conte is expected to soon be confirmed as Chelsea’s next boss.
Pochettino takes Tottenham to Aston Villa on Sunday in search of a win which would move his side to within two points off Leicester City at the top of the Premier League.
The 44-year-old looks likely to lead the north Londoners to the Champions League in only his second year in charge – and The Sun on Sunday says Spurs hope to use that status to tempt Henderson away from Liverpool.
Henderson has four years remaining on his £100,000 a week contract at Anfield but has never played in Europe’s premier competition.
