Power Rankings: Chelsea go sixth; Hull and West Brom top

Diego Costa: Fired Chelsea to victory

Hull City’s impressive win over the champions has sent the fractured Premier League new boys to the top of our table along with West Brom, with Liverpool and Man Utd close behind.

The Tigers were friendless ahead of the opener, but they proved to be a tough opposition for Leicester, who missed their chances and were made to pay. Meanwhile, West Brom did what Tony Pulis’ teams do – they won 1-0 away from home.

In Power Rankings, we award points from 0.5 to 7, decided by an algorithm based on bookmaker odds and winning margins.

It rewards teams scoring lots of goals and also those defying expectations but sees odds-on favourites penalised for sneaking past inferior opponents by the odd goal.

West Ham claimed the title by 3.5 points in our inaugural Power Rankings last season.
