Power Rankings: Liverpool rise to third; Manchester United sinking

Power Rankings: Liverpool third

Power Rankings: Liverpool third

Liverpool’s super show against Chelsea sees them move into third spot, while Crystal Palace and Watford were the week’s top points scorers.

Jordan Henderson’s wondergoal at Stamford Bridge was enough to lift Jurgen Klopp’s men up three places and only Manchester City and Merseyside rivals Everton have more points.

Palace’s demolition of Stoke saw them leap five places, while Watford’s humbling of Manchester United lifted them up four places and saw Jose Mourinho’s men sink to 11th.

In Power Rankings, we award points from 0.5 to 7, decided by an algorithm based on bookmaker odds and winning margins.

It rewards teams scoring lots of goals and also those defying expectations but sees odds-on favourites penalised for sneaking past inferior opponents by the odd goal.

West Ham claimed the title by 3.5 points in our inaugural Power Rankings last season.
