Power Rankings: Boro up three; Man Utd slip into obscurity

Power Rankings: Chelsea top, Arsenal 3rd

Power Rankings: Chelsea top, Arsenal 3rd

Manchester United have slipped more than 20 points behind leaders Chelsea, while Arsenal go third and are closing in on Liverpool in our Power Rankings.

United’s inability to hold on to victory at Everton sees them sink a further two places into mid-table obscurity, while Chelsea’s powerful away-day success at Man City has laid down a marker. Antonio Conte’s men are flying high, five points clear of Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s men somehow turned a 3-1 advantage into a 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth, but stay in second although Arsenal’s 5-1 thumping of West Ham sees them on the coat tails of the men from Anfield.

Crystal Palace top scored with six points and surged five places, while Sunderland also moved up five places after a win over the champions Leicester.

In Power Rankings, we award points from 0.5 to 7, decided by an algorithm based on bookmaker odds and winning margins.

It rewards teams scoring lots of goals and also those defying expectations but sees odds-on favourites penalised for sneaking past inferior opponents by the odd goal.

West Ham, who are 19th this time around, claimed the title by 3.5 points in our inaugural Power Rankings last season.

West Brom – 4pts: Set-pieces pay off at The Hawthorns.

Bournemouth – 4pts: Scored some “beautiful” goals and “deserved it”, said Jurgen Klopp.

Sunderland – 4pts: “If we can win another three out of four we will be in a really good position,” said David Moyes. Steady on.

Middlesbrough – 4pts: Made hard work of it but got the job done against a toothless Hull side.

Everton – 1.5pts: “A fair result,” claimed Ronald Koeman, who eased some of the pressure on his shoulders.

Stoke – 2.5pts: Strong first-half performance earned them the points.

Man Utd – 0.5pt: “I am concerned because we don’t get results we deserve,” said Jose Mourinho. We are concerned too…
