Robert Lewandowski and Neymar are among WhoScored.com’s best performers this season – but the top 10 is ‘gatecrashed’ by a pair of Premier League stars.
The Premier League has two representatives in the top 10 – both of whom play for the same club – while Spain’s La Liga and Germany’s Bundesliga have four players each.
Bayern Munich are the only other team in the top 10 to have two players make the list.
Brazil has the most representatives in the top 10, with three, with Spain, England and Germany having just one each.
Here, we run down the top 10 players in Europe so far this season.
10. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund)
Aubameyang has 14 goals in 12 appearances this season, and has an average rating of 7.83.
9. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
Vardy has 12 in 12 – including one in each of his last nine games – and has a season-rating so far of 7.85.
8. Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen)
Bender is yet to score, but has caught the eye in Leverkusen’s midfield with a seasonal average of 7.86.
7. Marcelo (Real Madrid)
With a seasonal score of 7.88, Brazilian Marcelo is the only Real Madrid player to make the top 10.
6. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
With 14 goals in just nine starts, Poland striker Lewandowksi is Europe’s third highest rated striker this season with 7.92.
5. Nolito (Celta Vigo)
The only Spaniard in the top 10, Nolito (with a score of 8.03) has been linked to Barcelona and Arsenal.
4. Douglas Costa (Bayern Munich)
With a seasonal score so far of 8.07, Douglas Costa has impressed since arriving in the summer from Shakhtar Donestsk.
3. Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)
Algerian forward Mahrez (8.17) is the Premier League’s best player so far this season, and has already been linked with Manchester United.
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris Saint-Germain)
At 34, Zlatan is easily the oldest player in the top 10, but with an average score of 8.34, his powers show no sign of abating.
1. Neymar (Barcelona)
With 11 goals in 10 games, Neymar has stepped up in the absence of Lionel Messi, and with a seasonal average of 8.63 looks a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or.
