James McCarthy: Remains a big doubt for Everton

Everton are ready to sell James McCarthy with Newcastle United, West Ham and Crystal Palace all reportedly interested.

Toffees’ boss Ronald Koeman has publicly maintained his desire to keep the 26-year-old.

However, according to a report in the Daily Mail, sources close to the club state that Everton will still sell McCarthy for around £20million to help fund their summer transfer wishlist.

McCarthy was forced to withdraw Republic of Ireland squad for next month’s games against Mexico, Uruguay and Austria as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

“Of course I want to keep McCarthy because all the times he was really fit and on his level most of the time he was a starting player,” Koeman stated on Saturday.

“But it was really difficult because he had a lot of injuries and that makes it difficult for him and the manager also.

“He will stay (at home for these Ireland games). He spoke to the manager and they took the decision he will not go to the national team.
