Louis van Gaal: Frustrated to see Manchester United blow lead at Newcastle

Louis van Gaal: Not likely to significantly strengthen his squad

Manchester United appear unlikely to make any additions on transfer deadline day, with speculation continuing to be dominated by Louis van Gaal’s future.

The United boss has consistently spoken of the need to add more pace and creativity to his attack but concerns over his the Dutchman’s position makes it unlikely that he will be allowed a splurge before the window closes at 11pm.

Sadio Mane has been a long-term target but Southampton refuse to sell, while Nigerian media claimed last week that Ahmed Musa was also the subject of interest. Nothing has happened since to suggest there is any truth in those reports.

Injuries have led many to speculate that the Red Devils could be in the market for full-backs, but Van Gaal has seen his decision to blood youth vindicated by some solid performances from Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela.
