Gaston Ramirez: Has struggled to prove worth since move to Southampton

Ronald Koeman has told Southampton flop Gaston Ramirez he can leave this month after costing the club a reported £8,000 for every minute he’s spent on the pitch.

Saints have splashed out £21million on Ramirez in transfer fees and wages since his then-club record £12million move from Bologna in the summer of 2012.

The Uruguayan playmaker, who earns a reported £60,000-a-week, has played just 55 games in four years – a total of 2,662 minutes.

Saints boss Koeman said: “The situation with Gaston is different to our other players because he is ending his contract. He is not in the plans for the future of the club.”

Ramirez, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull, is wanted by Middlesbrough and his former club Bologna.
