Jamie Vardy: Striker now scored in eight consecutive matches

Claudio Ranieri has praised the character of his Leicester players after the win at West Brom – even if they won’t get any pizza.

A brace from Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy’s eighth-consecutive goal saw the Foxes climb to third in the Premier League with a 3-2 win at West Brom, who went in front through Solomon Rondon before staging a late fightback with Rickie Lambert’s penalty.

And manager Ranieri, who has promised to buy his players pizza whenever they keep a clean sheet, expressed his pride at his players.

“We fight to the end. We have a very strong character and play good football,” he said.

“I told my players they were playing very well at half-time, to be careful at set-plays, and it was important to move the ball quickly and put them under pressure.

“We did that well. It’s important Jamie continues to work for the team. The record is good for everybody. We conceded a goal today, so no pizza. Nothing.”

Striker Vardy’s exceptional form means he can equal Ruud van Nistlerooy’s Premier League’s record if he scores in his next two matches.

However the England international insists he is trying not to focus too much on the feat.

“If I achieve it, it will be an absolute honour but I’ve just got to knuckle down and prepare for the next game,” he said.
