Claudio Ranieri has tipped N’Golo Kante to become one of the world’s top midfielders – and has explained how Leicester came to signing the player.
The 24-year-old has impressed since a summer move from Caen with the Foxes top of the Barclays Premier League.
Kante became one of Ranieri’s first buys in July after assistant Steve Walsh convinced the Italian to sign him.
And, ahead of Monday’s visit of Chelsea, Ranieri believes Kante can progress to be the best enforcer in Europe.
He said: “He can achieve this target. I think he can improve, but for us he is very important, because he recovers a lot of goals.
“When I arrived here, Steve pushed me and said: ‘Kante, Claudio, Kante’.
“He was determined to sign him more than I was. It’s good, I work very well with Steve.
“He’s very important, when we look at football we share the same ideas. There is a very good relationship between me and him.”
Ranieri won November’s Manager of the Month with striker Jamie Vardy collecting the players’ award after he broke a league record by scoring in his 11th consecutive game last month.
His run stopped in the 3-0 win at Swansea last week with the Foxes two points clear at the top of the table and skipper Wes Morgan insists the Foxes deserve to be there.
“Just to say that (Leicester are top) is amazing,” he told Foxes Player. “We’ve done well so far and I’m sure people are surprised that we’re actually here but we definitely deserve to be here.
“We just want to stay grounded, stay confident and keep playing well.”
