Ratings: Mane magical for Liverpool; Dier and Davies diabolical

Liverpool showed signs of old in their 2-0 victory against Tottenham and there was plenty of praise for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Tottenham? Not so much…

LIVERPOOL

SIMON MIGNOLET No.1 spot has once again come under threat but made a very good save to deny Son Heung-Min from close range 7

NATHANIEL CLYNE Had a lovely evening bombing up and down the right flank under little pressure from his Tottenham counterparts 8

JOEL MATIP Barely troubled, even when Tottenham put Son up alongside Harry Kane 7

LUCAS Looked like Liverpool’s clear weak link on paper but turned in a solid display at the back 7

JAMES MILNER A typical James Milner performance 7

JORDAN HENDERSON Was pretty scruffy at the base of Liverpool’s midfield but will be happy to be overshadowed by those in front of him 6

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM Absolutely stunning ball through for Sadio Mane’s first which more than justified his selection ahead of Emre Can 8

ADAM LALLANA Dropped back into midfield where his fantastic work rate really shone through 7

PHILIPPE COUTINHO Now 11 games with a goal for Liverpool but played a major role in the breakneck start from the hosts 7

ROBERTO FIRMINO Couple of bright moments but he is still performing way below what we all know he is capable of 6

SADIO MANE He is a match made in heaven for Jurgen Klopp. His relentless pressing and surging runs in the first half were rewarded with two quick-fire goals 9

Substitutions

EMRE CAN (for Coutinho, 77′): Nothing more than some fresh pair of legs in midfield 5

RAGNAR KLAVAN (for Lucas, 82′): An incident-free cameo 5

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD (for Mane, 90): Came on so Mane could receive his well-deserved ovation N/A

Sadio Mane: Smashes home for Liverpool

TOTTENHAM

HUGO LLORIS: Was completely powerless to resist the Liverpool onslaught in the first half 5

KYLE WALKER: A clumsy performance from the right-back who always looked capable of suddenly putting his side under pressure 5

ERIC DIER: Looked very uncomfortable and at fault for Liverpool’s second. He desperately needs to return to midfield 5

TOBY ALDERWEIRELD: Had a tough night with Dier alongside him 6

BEN DAVIES: Had a nightmare up against Mane and Clyne as Liverpool constantly targeted attacks down the right flank 4

MOUSSA DEMBELE: Simply not able to make his usual commanding presence felt in midfield 5

VICTOR WANYAMA: Struggled against Liverpool’s press and was caught in possession by Lallana for Liverpool’s deserved opener 4

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN: Barely even noticed he was on the pitch 5

DELE ALLI: Same goes for Dele as well, who spent most of the second half winding up Henderson 5

SON HEUNG-MIN: Wasted a glorious chance to get Tottenham back into the game in the first half and provided very little protection for Davies 5

HARRY KANE: There is no in between with Kane. He either scores or is completely anonymous and tonight he most certainly went missing 5

SUBSTITUTIONS

HARRY WINKS (on for Eriksen 67′): Only major contribution was a booking soon after he came on 5

VINCENT JANSSEN (on for Son 82′): Game was out of Tottenham’s reach by the time he entered the field 5
