‘I don’t see Xhaka reaching the levels Arsenal need’

Are Manchester United falling behind? Plus Diego Costa, Granit Xhaka and Huddersfield Town all discussed in Your Says of the Day.

United falling behind?

Manchester City have clearly identified early on who they don’t want and who they require. In B. Silva, they’ve got one hell of a talent and at 22 years old, he’ll only get better under Pep’s guidance.

I’m amazed as to how and why it takes us so damn long to sign players.

Before you say, I totally understand that a lot was dependent on whether we qualified for the Champions League. But surely as soon as we did, we should have had things in place to say “Okay, we’ve qualified. Sign here please.” Transfer fees and salaries would have been, or should have been, arranged and agreed months ago.

I’m just impressed with clubs like Citeh and Chelski as to how to conduct their transfers. With us, it’s like a drama series!

We’ve always haggled and to be fair we’ve rarely paid more than our valuation of a player, the most obvious exception being the year of Moyes management where we had to pay over the odds just to get anyone in. In one sense it makes the management worthy of respect, we won’t be held hostage and if another team wants to pay significantly more than a player is worth then that’s fine too.

To an extent, City can afford to pay over the odds, we could too except for the debt the Glazer’s have saddled the club with. I’d like to see a deal done in the next week or two but I trust, as with Pogba last season, that the important transfers will get done.

The impossible dream

Congrats to Huddersfield. They’ll go straight down but will enjoy the ride. I think it’s always unfair when one team has 3 Germans taking penalties.

Huddersfield have a really strong back 4 but they will need to strengthen the creative department if they want to survive in the Prem. Hopefully they can hold on to Wagner who in turn will get a little money to lure out a few more Germans to Huddersfield.

Congratulations to Huddersfield, great people in that little town. I was hoping Reading would be coming back up for Jaap Stam’s sake but in the end it wasn’t to be. I must say, though, that the quality on display from both teams was meagre at best. Huddersfield will really struggle in the Premier League. I only expect Newcastle to stay up.

Xhaka not good enough?

I do actually like Xhaka, I just don’t see him reaching the level we need him to reach. The areas he lacks in are not things you can just improve on. His speed, his spacial awareness and his timing. its not like passing and shooting that drilled enough will get better and better.

Exciting times if wenger leaves, dangerous times if he stays.

Kroenke must go

How can you Say Kroenke is not the problem? He’s the biggest problem.Ok even If I look at it from your perspective You want Wenger gone right? Remember it’s Kroenke who has decided to keep him at the club.He doesn’t put any pressure on Wenger to win trophies, and accepts whatever he delivers.

For what it’s worth, Kroenke is the biggest problem.Ever since he’s become majority shareholder we’ve drifted further away from glory. Yes, an owner doesn’t need to be as involved but I doubt this man even knows the rules of the game.In modern football however,it’s been proven that more involved owners gives you a much bigger shot at glory.

Never going to happen under Kroenke, no matter who the manager is.

Forcing Costa’s hand

Diego Costa: Has not been at his best since January

Sadly the club needs to force Costa’s hand. At 29 and with two years remaining, Costa is at the very top of his game and negotiating position.

By offering him a reduced contract due to age, it means he’s no longer welcome at the club, it also means that as he is nearing retirement he will have to take the best offer available to him. The club can say take it or leave it and accept the highest bid. If he then chooses to ignore it, it means he has to make a choice.

He is not going to get better but now start his decline. He’s also pap in the champions league for us and hasn’t performed since January. He’s only played for about 1.5 years of the three he’s been with us. Liability… ditch, get rid… he was dreadful in the final and should have had a hatrick.

Solanke a big coup

In my opinion, Solanke is a bit ahead in the development curve than a youth player. He played a full season in Eredevisie in 2015/2016 and was 3rd choice striker at Chelsea this season, though he didn’t make an appearance.

Apparently, we beat Celtic and RB Leipzig to his capture, so I guess that must count for something.

If he does join us, I see him as the ideal squad backup striker/winger to cover for injuries, and play in cups etc.
