‘Man Utd made to look foolish by City’s transfer policy’

One of our readers thinks that Manchester City’s transfer policies are making Manchester United look foolish, while an Arsenal fan reckons that Alexis Sanchez should be made to see out his contract at the club. All that and more in Your Says of the Day.

City’s transfer policy is making United look foolish

Whatever happened to our policy of not signing players over 27? Perisic is nothing special and the figures being quoted for a nearly 29 year old are ludicrous even in an inflated market. I’m all for bringing in a bit of experience at the back or in midfield but attacking players at his age are just short term answers. We need a captain or a couple of hard men but this guy isn’t the answer. I agree with some, City are making us look foolish and not for the first time in recent years.

Arsenal would flourish in Europe with a better mentality

A highly entertaining final – well done to Arsenal on a great team performance and result. It’s a shame that the excellent performances only seem to come when the pressure is off (Chelsea were favourites and the chase for the CL was done last week – winning or losing the FA Cup final wasn’t going to be a big deal for anyone in the club), if the team had a bit of a better mentality then they’d truly make big waves in both England (the league) and Europe.

Chelsea were poor on the day and that was thanks to Arsenal’s simple yet well-performed plan – keep Hazard quiet and Chelsea are no better than any of the other Top Six teams. They didn’t perform on the day and Cahill was immense to keep them in it for most of the match.

So ends another average season of English football where our top clubs couldn’t perform in Europe (United did the business in the Europa League and, whilst a nice trophy to have, it’s the Champions League that really matters), pretty much all put in sub-standard league campaigns (bar Chelsea and maybe Spurs) and the standard of football did not improve and continues to lag behind the top teams of Spain, Germany, Italy and France.

Man United lift trophies even when not on top of their game

Ash – 3 trophies and a CL spot when we were bad. United lift trophies even when not on top of their game. Others would give anything to be us. Chelsea will spend the entire summer sulking now which is great cause they were a bit full of themselves.

And yes John Terry’s last act as a Chelsea player is to collect a loser’s medal thanks to the mighty Arsenal, I will never get tired of saying that.

Obscene money in the Premier League is a major turn off

The amount of money that is being thrown about to solve footballing issues by “world class managers” is disgusting when it comes to competition throughout the league. When the spending power of 2/3/4 clubs is more than the combined amount spent through England something is seriously wrong. What happened to nurturing home-grown? It is really making me turn off to this league.

If we had one big signing this summer, rumoured to be Thomas Lemar, coupled with so astute purchases and sales I will be happy enough.

Sell Walker, Sissoko (or p/x), perhaps Janssen and Wimmer.
Buy Voetman, Lemar and Gameiro.

35 million for Oxlade-Chamberlain is ‘insane and crazy’

If we have to believe in rumours then Klopp either wastes time or is in the wrong direction!! We can not speak about Ox and spend 35 mil for him…It is insane and CRAZY!! We can not comptete City and Utd at first and Chelsea plus Arsenal and there is no need!! Clichy is free and is 31 years old. If we can not buy Sessegnon, buy Robertson. If Keita costs a lot look at alternatives. Van Dijk has been overrated and does not cost 50 mil at all. Then there is De Vrij from Lazio. besides Keita from Lazio, Immobile, Patrik Schick from Sampdoria….

Arsenal should make Sanchez see out his contract

Its tough as I don’t think it will matter who we sign if Wenger is still in charge. He has said the decision will be made after the board meeting. For me this all relies on the supposed changes that ivan the tit wants to make with a director of football and babkroom changes. If Wenger gets his way and keeps complete control he will stay, if not then he could walk. Rumour floating around that tuchel relationship is non existent with the Dortmund board, so he could be available and whilst I’d rather allegri he would be a fresh approach and one that could get more from this team.
Van djik isn’t a realistic option he was last season instead of mustafi, now though not a chance. I’d go for Jonathan Tah, he is a beast also I like the look of Sanchez kid from Ajax, raw but my god is he strong and quick.
Midfield, we need a physical holding player who is literally there to guard the back 2 or 3, kessie, bazoer, kimmich or weigl.
Striker wise – we are going to have to smash our own record to land one. Im a big lacazette fan, He has quality in every area of his game. other than him I would look to dembele (Dortmund) realistically though we are short on options. I’d love us to get aubamamayang, lewandovski, greizman or dybala but that ain’t going to happen.
To sell (realistically) – monreal, Gabriel, Walcott, Perez, and jenks all are surplus and if I had it my way xhaka and mustafi would be added to that list as well.
Sanchez- make him see out his contract, we will not attract anyone of his calibre this summer, if we do sell him to Bayern then get Douglas costa as part of the deal. Ultimately though make him stay, we show him intent with signings and we have a great season I could see him signing on.

Chelsea players should look at their own performances, not the ref’s

Some of the players blaming the ref, they should look at their own performances first. Arsenal were on the front foot for most of the game.

My biggest critic of the game was why Matic instead of Fabregas? Especially when playing Arsenal, who aren’t the ‘rough them up’ type of team.

Oh well the only good thing that can come out of this result is Conte/Abramovic knowing that we need to improve our team/squad this summer in prep for next season.

Moses was stupid and Kante was terrible but I expect this to be a learning curve for both.

AFCON shouldn’t stop Liverpool signing African players

Not buying a top class player just because he might miss up to one month every two seasons (for AFCON) is not just nonsense in my opinion. And that is only if their team qualifies btw.

So basically you are implying we should not sign our top rumoured target, Keita, for this very reason?

What about if these African players play a big part in Liverpool finally winning big trophies, is the investment not justified?

Do you think Klopp is not aware of this? If we want to be a really top club we should have the squad depth to cope with these absences (and injuries) anyway.

Chelsea are only a great side because of Hazard

Winning any trophy (that’s not a one-match thing) in today’s environment is difficult enough on it’s own, winning two (or more) is an excellent feat.

I maintain my stance that Chelsea are only a great side because of Hazard – he is world class and makes them tick when he’s on his game and when he’s not there doesn’t seem to be anyone to truly pick up the slack. Pedro, Willian and Diego Costa have their moments of brilliance but when they’re up against a decent team, if there’s no Hazard they struggle big time.
