Real Madrid are just “hours away” from signing Spain under-21 midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to Real Betis president Angel Haro.
The midfielder star was a smash hit at the recent Under-21 European Championships, winning the Player of the Tournament award and he has been pursued by Real and Barcelona.
The 20-year-old though is close to sealing an €18million move to join Zinedine Zidane’s men with reports claiming he is undergoing a medical ahead of signing a six-year deal.
Haro told AS: “Ceballos rejected a new contract offer from Betis.
“He has an agreement with Madrid and we are all talking at the moment. It will be resolved in the coming days or hours.
“[If] you make an offer to the player, he has a clause and another club pays that, or more, you cannot do anything,” Haro said. “It is not a failure on our part. In the coming hours we can say precisely what Real Madrid have offered. But life goes on, other players will come, and we can say that nobody is irreplaceable.”
Ceballos has a €15million release clause in his Real Betis contract, but Real made an increased offer to help ensure they got to the player ahead of Barcelona.
“Right now, my future is with Betis. I have three years left on my contract, and I’m relaxed,” said Ceballos last month during the U21 tournament.
“At the end of the day, if the big clubs are interested in you, it’s because you’re doing well. It’s really nice to be talked about in that way.”

Ceballos’ imminent arrival is set to spell the end of James Rodriguez’s time at the Bernabeu. Reports from Colombia have suggested Bayern Munich are now the favourites for the €70m-rated playmaker.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are the three clubs who could swoop for James, according to AS.
