Raphael Varane: Reportedly wanted by Man United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly held talks with Raphael Varane over a summer switch to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is looking to revamp his side this summer and sees Real Madrid star Varane as a long-term partner for Eric Bailly at the heart of United’s defence.

According to Don Balon, Mourinho has been in constant contact with the 24-year-old, who he signed while boss at Real back in 2011, and is confident that a deal can be done for the highly-rated France international.

Any potential deal for Varane is expected to involve United goalkeeper David De Gea moving in the opposite direction, while Real striker Alvaro Morata could also be involved in any swap.

De Gea’s move back to Madrid fell through at the last minute in the 2015 summer transfer window, but the 26-year-old is fully expected to finally join the La Liga giants in the upcoming window.

Indeed, United have reportedly already lined-up De Gea’s replacement in the form of another Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak.
