Steven N’Zonzi has admitted he is happy at the thought of Barcelona monitoring his progress, but is not actively looking to leave Sevilla.
The former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City midfielder has been tipped to make a return to the Premier League with Chelsea supposedly keen on bolstering their options.
However, it is the reported interest from Barcelona that has caught his attention and he is hoping that he can continue to catch the eye with his current club.
“It’s good to know that Barcelona, one of the best clubs in the world, are watching my matches,” he said ahead of Sevilla’s trip to Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
“I’m very focused on Sevilla. I love the club, the supporters and the city and I feel good. The most important thing for me is to play and enjoy my football, and in Sevilla I am doing that.”
“I could stay in Sevilla for a long time. The only thing that matters to me is to keep growing.”
Sevilla are well aware of the growing interest in N’Zonzi and have already made big steps in trying to get him to commit to a new contract.
Club president Jose Castro told Cadena Cope: “We are working on N’Zonzi’s contract extension and we are in negotiations. We hope to announce it soon.”
