Revealed: The reason Klopp was happy to sell £142m Coutinho

Liverpool made the decision to sell Philippe Coutinho because of the concerns of boss Jurgen Klopp, according to a report.

Barcelona paid a huge fee to sign the Brazil international from Liverpool in January, paying the Anfield club £142million.

However, Liverpool seem to be coping just fine without Coutinho as summer signing Mohamed Salah continues to score for fun, while Sadio Mane and Roberto Firming have helped form a fearsome attacking trident.

Coutinho watched from the sidelines as his Barca’s Champions League hopes were crushed by a stunning three-goal comeback from Roma.

However, a report from the Liverpool Echo claims that Klopp had his reasons for selling the former Inter Milan, the main one being that he felt his side became too predictable with Coutinho in the team.

They go on to state that Liverpool did try to keep Coutinho, but were happy to cash in once they learned of Klopp’s concerns.

Coutinho could be handed a Champions League winners medal this season should the Reds go all the way after featuring in their groups stage campaign.
