Brendan Rodgers: Has held talks with Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has played down speculation linking Carlo Ancelotti to Liverpool and says his relationship with the club’s owners is “strong”.

Liverpool were on Wednesday forced to deny making contact with Ancelotti over the possibility of replacing Rodgers at Anfield, while fresh reports the following day suggested former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is ready to end his sabbatical from football.

Rodgers is paying little attention to the speculation, however, and is confident he retains the backing of the club’s owners.

“I have regular contact with the owners and the relationship has always been strong,” Rodgers said at his press conference on Friday.

“Whatever happens here, whether I’m here for one day, one month, one year, whatever, I’ll always have a huge respect for the owners here and the people that work here.

“In terms of the names linked, when you’re manager of a club this size there is always going to be speculation, especially when you’re not winning.”

Despite his good relationship with FSG, Rodgers acknowledges that his job could come under threat if results do not improve quickly. But the Northern Irishman insists he is enjoying the pressure of the job and believes this tricky period will help him in the long run.

“I’m never complacent enough to think my job has never been (in danger),” Rodgers said. “At a club of this stature you always need to be at your best

“Experiences make you better as a manager. To manage the focus and scrutiny here has been fantastic. I’ve loved every minute of it.

Rodgers, who said he wants to remain at Anfield “for a long period” has spoken on several occasions this season about his disappointment with the way Liverpool have played, particularly when using the long ball too often to Christian Benteke.

The Northern Irishman is confident he can soon get the team playing the way he wants, however, and has praised the work his players are putting in to improve.

“I’ll prepare my team to prepare exciting dynamic football,” Rodgers said.

“They (the players) are working very hard. I always believe hard work pays off. We’re all working tirelessly to be in the last possible place to win games. That brings the confidence.

“We started with good results and have had a few disappointing perfromances. They’re working very hard and that will bring the success.”
