Suggestions that reported Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City Leroy Sane could cost €55million have been described as “bizarre”.
Sane has scored four and set up another four goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke this season, leading to speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League – and Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, when asked about the possibility of a club paying €55million for the 20-year-old as has been suggested, Borussia Monchengladbach’s general manager Max Eberl told Sport Bild: “After half a year in the Bundesliga! Of course Sane is a top talent. But €55m? That’s bizarre.”
Schalke coach Andre Breitenreiter, meanwhile, has told Sane he would be best served staying at the Veltins Arena for now.
“The public comments made by CEO Clemens Tonnies, sporting director Horst Heldt and Leroy’s management are all crystal clear,” he told Sport Bild.
“That’s why I am not thinking about a potential transfer for Leroy.
“He still has plenty to learn, must continue to mature and needs games in order to be ready for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“On the other hand, it is a dream for many young players to play for a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid at some point.”
Heldt has dismissed the possibility of Sane talking to other teams this month about a summer move but acknowledges Schalke are likely to have interest to fend off come the end of the season.
“Of course not, because the player has a contract until 2019,” Heldt said.
“But one can assume that teams are already positioning themselves.
“It will certainly be a topic in the summer and the club will then deal with it.”
