Manchester United legend Paul Scholes thinks his former club should bite the bullet and invest in Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.
The Red Devils have reportedly made the 25-year-old their top target for the summer transfer window with the club looking to make another statement following their £89million deal for Paul Pogba last summer.
And Scholes reckons that if the United academy aren’t producing talent good enough for the first team then Griezmann is a player they should try to sign.
“If Griezmann is within reach, why wouldn’t we take advantage and try to sign him, especially if our youngsters aren’t at the level we need?” Scholes told German football magazine kicker.
“At United, there is always a lot of pressure to win the Premier League and the Champions League.”
However, the French international seemed to pour cold water on speculation this week as he claimed to be “very happy” at Atletico.
“I feel great at the club and in Madrid,” Griezmann told Fifa. “On a personal level I’m very happy, and in football terms we’re about to move to a new stadium, which is very important.
“We’ll just have to see what the future brings, but for now I’m very happy here and I hope to win trophies with this club.”
