Louis van Gaal: Handling of his players questioned by Scholes

Paul Scholes has criticised Louis van Gaal’s managerial techniques at Manchester United, saying his approach would work with Academy prospects, and not first-team players.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Van Gaal held individual meetings with all his players in the wake of his side’s 2-1 defeat against FC Midtjylland in the first leg of their last-32 Europa League tie.

United bounced back from that defeat – beating their Danish opponents 5-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday night to reach the last 16.

Scholes hasn’t held back in his views on Van Gaal and he thinks the Dutchman’s tactics should be reserved for 16-year-olds.

When asked whether Van Gaal’s approach was correct, Scholes told BT Sport.

Who should Man United appoint as successor to Louis Van Gaal?

  • Jose Mourinho
  • Ryan Giggs
  • Mauricio Pochettino
  • Laurent Blanc
  • Diego Simeone
  • Manuel Pellegrini
  • Other

“I’m not sure really. It’s his style and it’s something he obviously wants to do.

“Maybe he wants to get something off his chest, maybe it’s a chance for the player himself to get something off his chest.

“It’s his style, he may think he can get more out of the player doing it that way.

“I’m not too sure I think it’s maybe something for when you’re 16 or 17 that happens and whether when you are in the first team I’m not too sure.”

Scholes is totally right. Once Giggs becomes the manager, he should join in.

So according to scholes, fergie didn’t do this so it can’t be right. I’m not a fan of lvg but this comparison with fergie’s way of working is ridiculous. Scholes need to move on it’s as if fergie invented football

To an extent scholes is right. Which established players can LVG handle? geez he can’t even handle his own depay or even schweinst..

As predicted after two wins against lesser opponents he comes out with the usual drivel. ” the links to my position are a scandal” o really the biggest scandal is you wasting away 250m and leaving us no where and yet remaining in a job!

Seriously what does he expect after all the turgid crap we have witnessed to say no LVG your doing great! Of course your job will come under pressure, in any walk of life you will be under the scrutiny why does he think he is untouchable? The arrogant …

Maybe Scholes should shut up and try management for once. Gary is learning now how easy to sit in a comfortable studio and criticize what others are doing
