Celtic are facing fresh disciplinary action from UEFA after a fan charged on to to ythe pitch to confront Paris St Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

European football’s governing body has confirmed it has opened proceedings against the club for the incident that soured Tuesday night’s Champions League clash in Glasgow.

Hoops fan John Hatton appeared in court on Wednesday to admit invading the pitch and assaulting former Monaco frontman Mbappe by attempting to kick him.

Hatton pleaded guilty to assault and section one of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act (2012) – which relates to behaviour “likely to incite public disorder” – at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was banned from every football ground in the UK by Sheriff Sukwinder Gill who told him: “I don’t know much about football.

“But this was a high profile match. It was a Champions League match. It was televised across the UK.”

He was released on bail and the case has been adjourned until October but now UEFA bosses are also set to take action against Celtic.

A second Celtic fan Anthony Lavelle admitted punching Hatton on the head as he left the stadium with police.

Depute fiscal Louise McNeil said: “Mr Lavelle was a spectator and after seeing John Hatton invading the pitch he became upset and angry.

“While the police were escorting Mr Hatton from the stadium he punched him on the head. Mr Lavelle was then arrested.”

Sheriff Gill fined Lavelle £400 and gave him two months to pay it. She refused a Crown motion to impose a football banning order on him.

PSG have also been charged after their fans were accused of breaking seats at Celtic Park and will have their matter addressed at the same hearing as Celtic.
