Xherdan Shaqiri is “focused” on Stoke but his agent and brother has admitted a move to Roma is not out of the question.
Shaqiri, 25, has been mentioned as a target for the Rome side and his agent and brother Erdin has spoken about the possibility of the former Bayern Munich man moving on from the Britannia Stadium.
“I can’t say much, Xherdan is focused on Stoke City. January is far away, we have time to look at our options,” Erdin told the Corriere dello Sport.
When asked about a move to the Stadio Olimpico, he replied: “Roma? Never say never…”
The powerful Shaqiri has scored once in three Premier League games this term, but his campaign so far has been disrupted by a calf problem which has seen him miss seven games.
Calciomercato cheekily suggests “were the Potters tempted to offload some weight”then talented Switzerland international could end up in Rome. The Serie A side will need reinforcements once former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah goes to the African Cup of Nations in January.
Paraguayan Juan Iturbe is also going through a tough spell and Shaqiri would be an ideal addition to the Giallorossi.
Stoke signed Shaqiri for £14.5million on a five-year contract from Inter Milan in 2015 and he scored three goals for the Potters last season.
