Sheffield Wed v Aldershot preview

Sheffield Wednesday will be without loanees Sanchez Watt and Miguel Llera for the clash.

Arsenal striker Watt, left out last week as the Owls already had five loanees in their squad, has not been given permission to play by parent club Arsenal and must wait a while longer for his debut.

Blackpool central defender Llera, who made his debut in last week’s win over Leyton Orient, is also unavailable but fellow centre-half and skipper Rob Jones is back from suspension and is expected to partner Danny Batth.

James Tavernier, on loan from Newcastle, does have permission to play and is likely to retain his place in defence after making his debut last week.

But striker Gary Madine remains sidelined with a broken toe – Chris O’Grady, Ryan Lowe, Ben Marshall and Clinton Morrison will vie for the two starting places up front – as does defender Lewis Buxton (hamstring).

Aldershot boss Dean Holdsworth has virtually a full squad to select from as they aim to pull off a giant-killing against the Owls.

The only absentees for the Shots will be loanees Jamie Day and Charlie Henry.

Left-back Day has not been given permission to play by parent club Crawley in the competition while Henry represented Luton against Hendon in an earlier round.

However, Holdsworth’s other loan signings midfielder Scott Davies, winger Adam Smith and striker Greg Pearson, can all feature.

“Sheffield Wednesday are a big, strong side who are doing extremely well in their division,” Holdsworth told Farnborough News & Mail.

“But we know that if our lads can play with confidence and have no fear then we are a test for anybody.”
