Shots and Bees share the spoils

The newly-promoted League One side had plenty of possession but could not break down the Shots.

The best chance of the game came the Bees’ way after just 10 minutes when summer signing Myles Weston worked his position well on the left and curled in a centre directly into the path of fellow newcomer Ben Strevens.

But the former Barnet and Dagenham striker scuffed his effort when unmarked six yards out.

Scott Davies had give the Shots the lead from the spot in the 24th minute after keeper Ben Hamer had brought down Ricky Newman, but Poole sealed a share of the points for the Bees after Dean Howell had handled in the area.

The Shots – maintaining an unbeaten home record that stretches back to January – burst out of the blocks and Louie Soares fired a shot which whistled just past the post.

Gary Waddock’s men did not have the wait too long to take the lead as Davies’ long ball over the top prompted Hamer to race out of his goal and clatter ex-Brentford man Newman, with Davies blasting home the resulting spot kick.

But Poole capitalised on Howell’s mistake to send Nikki Bull the wrong way from the spot and steal a point for Andy Scott’s men.
