Southampton have joined the chase for in-demand Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray, sources have told TEAMtalk.com.
Gray is regarded as one of the best young talents outside the Premier League after impressing at Birmingham during the last 18 months.
The likes of Bournemouth and Leicester City saw offers for Gray rejected last summer, while Liverpool and Tottenham are thought to be long-term admirers of the skilful attacker.
Gray signed a new three-year deal at St Andrew’s, but the 19-year-old is understood to have a release clause of £3.75million inserted in that new contract he signed in the summer.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is considering a foray into the transfer market in January to bolster his attacking options after an indifferent run of form and Gray is thought to figure on his list of targets.
Bournemouth and Leicester are both expected to rekindle their interest in Gray in the New Year and Birmingham could face a fight to keep hold of their prize asset.
However, Birmingham are reluctant to lose Gray midway through the season, although they bracing themselves for interest in the England Under-21 international when the transfer window reopens.
