Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has called up Athletic Bilbao’s Oscar de Marcos and Real Madrid’s Nacho Fernandez after Sergio Ramos and Juanfran were ruled out with injury.
Both Ramos and Juanfran were injured on Sunday while playing for Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid respectively, and will miss the upcoming friendlies against England and Belgium.
A statement from the Spanish football federation (RFEF) read: “Spain defenders Juanfran Torres and Sergio Ramos are ruled out of Spain’s next two games against England and Belgium.
“Vicente del Bosque’s chosen replacements are Oscar de Marcos and Nacho Fernandez, who will join the squad on Tuesday morning.”
Nacho, who scored Real Madrid’s winner in a 1-0 triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in last week’s Champions League fixture, was first called into the senior team in September 2013.
The 25-year-old defender has made two appearances for La Roja.
De Marcos has started in all of Athletic’s La Liga games this season and has received his first call-up to the international senior squad.
Real captain Ramos aggravated a left shoulder injury that has affected him since September during his team’s 3-2 defeat at Sevilla, while Atletico right-back Juanfran suffered a thigh injury against Sporting Gijon on Sunday.
Spain host England in Alicante on Friday before travelling to Brussels to face Belgium four days later.
