Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld admits he would be delighted to rejoin Ajax before the end of his career.
The Belgian has been in superb form since moving to White Hart Lane last summer, with his centre-back partnership with Jan Vertonghen being one of the primary reasons for Spurs’ title challenge.
Alderweireld was signed by Mauricio Pochettino from Atletico Madrid after starting his career with Ajax, making 128 appearances in the first-team having come through the ranks of the Amsterdam club.
The 27-year-old has four years remaining on his contract in north London, but a return to the Dutch capital remains among the defender’s ambitions.
“Ajax is a fantastic club and I would love to come back one day,” Alderweireld told De Telegraaf.
“But I won’t make any promises. I spent most of my career at Ajax and am thankful for those years. I was extremely happy in Amsterdam.”
