Stanley saunter to Torquay win

The Gulls took the lead when Johnny Flynn – on his Reds debut – tugged back Scott Rendell in the area as he lined up to shoot. A penalty was awarded and Gulls midfielder Nicky Wroe fired the spot kick into the top right-hand corner after 10 minutes.

But referee Andy Woolmer was soon pointing to the penalty spot at the other end on 39 minutes as Lee Mansell pulled back Michael Symes in the area, leaving defender Phil Edwards to blast home his fourth penalty out of four this season.

A minute later the Reds were ahead when Symes fired in a deep cross to the back post where captain Andy Procter stooped low to head home his first goal of the season. They extended their lead when Billy Kee backheeled the ball in the area for Luke Joyce to hammer the ball past Michael Poke.

Gulls boss Paul Buckle made three substitutions but, on a quick breakaway, Procter played a cross in and Bobby Grant was on hand to make it 11 goals for the season on 70 minutes.

Against the run of play, Torquay’s Tyrone Thompson raced forward and set up Chris Zebroski who fired low into the net on 82 minutes but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
