Stats: Chelsea tally low, odds against Hull

Date published: Friday 22nd May 2015 10:00

With Chelsea already crowned Premier League champions and the rest of the top four also decided, attention on the final day of the season on Sunday will be on the battle between Hull City and Newcastle to avoid joining already-relegated QPR and Burnley in the Championship.

Hull need to beat Manchester United at the KC Stadium to stand a chance of overhauling the Magpies, who also need a win, against West Ham at St James Park, to keep their fate in their own hands.

Elsewhere, Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton are all in with a chance of finishing fifth. All three sides face away games, against Stoke, Everton and Manchester City respectively.

Arsenal v West Bromwich Albion

Arsenal have won six and lost none of their last seven Premier League matches against West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies have never kept a clean sheet against Arsenal in the Premier League (35 goals conceded in 17 matches).

West Brom have scored only two goals in their last five Premier League games against Arsenal.

Arsenal are unbeaten on the final day in each of the last nine seasons, the longest current run.

Only West Ham have scored as many headed goals as West Brom this season (15).

Saido Berahino has scored 14 Premier League goals. The only Englishmen with more in the Premier League this season are Kane (20) and Austin (17).

Since 2006 Arsenal have finished the Premier League in the following positions: 4th, 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, 4th and 4th.

Next season will be West Brom’s sixth successive top-flight season, their best run since they went down in 1986 after 10 campaigns in a row in the top division.

West Brom have kept 10 clean sheets in 17 Premier League games under Tony Pulis.

Pulis has lost all six of his Premier League games as manager versus Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.

Aston Villa v Burnley

Aston Villa won their only previous Premier League home game against Burnley 5-2. Of their goalscorers that day, only Gabriel Agbonlahor remains at the club.

Burnley have not won a top-flight league game at Villa Park since April 1967.

Relegated Burnley have scored just one goal in their last eight Premier League matches.

Villa have taken seven points from their last three Premier League home games.

If Burnley lose they’ll have taken exactly the same number of points in their two seasons in the Premier League (30).

Tim Sherwood has seen his Villa side concede 22 goals in his first 12 Premier League games, exactly the same number as Paul Lambert in his opening 12.

Villa have scored 31 league goals this season. Their lowest ever in a single league season is 36 in Division Two in 1969-70.

This season is the 11th time Burnley have been relegated in their league history and the seventh time from the top-flight.

Burnley have played 4743 league games in their history yet their goal difference is a narrow +8.

Tom Cleverley has scored in each of Villa’s last two Premier League home games.

Chelsea v Sunderland

If Chelsea fail to win they will be only the second champions in the last 12 seasons to end with fewer than 86 points (Man Utd 2010/11, 80).

Diego Costa needs one more goal to become the fourth player to score 20 Premier League goals in a single season for Chelsea (+ Drogba twice, Hasselbaink twice & Lampard)

Chelsea have not lost successive Premier League games under Jose Mourinho since May 2006 when they were also in the position of having won the league already.

Jose Mourinho’s four defeats this season have been to managers whose names begin with the letter P, while his only Premier League home defeat as Chelsea boss was to Sunderland when they were managed by Poyet.

Mourinho has won only four of his last 10 Premier League games against Newcastle and Sunderland.

Sunderland have won only one of their 13 final day games in Premier League history.

That one final day win did come in London (away at West Ham in 2011).

Chelsea have ended the Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win in each of the past three seasons.

If John Terry plays the full game he’ll be only the second outfield player to play every minute of every game in a PL season and win the league (after Gary Pallister in 1992-93).

If Chelsea avoid defeat they will set a new record for fewest defeats in all competitions in the Premier League era (they have lost four so far).

Chelsea have 70 goals this season. The average number of goals for the champions in the 20-team PL era (1996 onwards) is 81.

Crystal Palace v Swansea City

Crystal Palace have scored just two goals in their last seven matches against Swansea City and never more than once in a game (D3 L4).

The Swans have won their last three games without conceding versus Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Garry Monk has four more points as Swansea manager than predecessor Michael Laudrup despite managing 11 games fewer.

Alan Pardew has won nine of his 17 Premier League games in charge of Palace, compared to Neil Warnock’s total of three from 16 earlier in the campaign.

Palace’s last two final day games in the Premier League have ended 2-2.

Bafetimbi Gomis has bagged five goals in his last five Premier League appearances.

Gomis’ seven Premier League goals have won his team 10 points, two more than Diego Costa’s 19 have won for Chelsea.

Glenn Murray has scored seven times and assisted three in his last 11 league games for Palace.

A five goal win for Palace would ensure they had a top-flight season without a negative goal difference for the first time since 1990-91.

Only Rob Green (132) has made more saves than Lukasz Fabianski (131) this season.

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur

Everton have gone seven games unbeaten at home to Tottenham in the Premier League, winning three (D4).

Spurs have won consecutive PL games against Everton for the first time since April 2006 (a run of four wins).

Tottenham have won on the final day in each of the last four seasons, the longest current run in the Premier League.

Harry Kane has won his team more points than any other player in the Premier League this season (22).

Everton have won six of their last seven final day games, including the last four at home.

Four of Erik Lamela’s seven PL assists this season have been for Nacer Chadli.

Leighton Baines needs one more assist to reach double figures for only the second time in his Premier League career.

Aaron Lennon has played 14 times for Everton without assisting a goal but assisted two for Tottenham in nine appearances earlier in the campaign.

Romelu Lukaku has scored at least 10 goals in each of the last three Premier League campaigns.

Harry Kane has failed to score in his last four Premier League games, his longest drought since October.

Hull City v Manchester United

Hull City have lost all seven previous Premier League encounters with Manchester United, conceding 21 goals in the process.

Wayne Rooney has scored seven and assisted three more in five Premier League games against Hull City.

Manchester United have drawn on the final day of the season for the last two campaigns (1-1 at Southampton in 2014, 5-5 at WBA in 2013).

United last lost away from home on the final day at Tottenham in 2001 (and still won the league by 10 points).

Ander Herrera has scored six goals from seven shots on target in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United have gone eight Premier League games without a clean sheet for the first time since September 2001.

Hull have never won a Premier League game in the month of May (W0 D3 L9).

Angel Di Maria has assisted 10 goals this season. No Man Utd player has assisted more than that in a single season since Antonio Valencia in 2011-12 (13).

Hull have won only eight of 42 Premier League games since qualifying for the 2014 FA Cup final.

Steve Bruce has won none of his 20 games as a Premier League manager against his former club, Manchester United (D4 L16).

Leicester City v Queens Park Rangers

Leicester City have won only two of their last 33 Premier League games against London sides (L22 D9).

QPR have never lost to Leicester in the Premier League, winning two and drawing one.

Leicester have kept five clean sheets in their last six PL games.

Matt Phillips has provided more assists in 2015 than any other PL player (8).

Jamie Vardy has eight assists from open play this season, level with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

Joey Barton has been booked in his last two Premier League appearances, after being booked in a record seven consecutive appearances in Dec-Feb.

QPR have conceded the same number of Premier League goals (128) as Everton over the past three seasons despite spending one campaign out of the division (2013-14)

A win will ensure that Leicester break the 40 point barrier in the Premier League for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

Leroy Fer has scored two of QPR’s last three Premier League goals but has been relegated for two seasons in a row (with QPR this season and Norwich in 2013-14).

Eight of Leonardo Ulloa’s 10 Premier League goals this season have come at home.

Manchester City v Southampton

Manchester City have won their last three PL home games against Southampton, this after losing the three beforehand.

Southampton have found the back of the net on each of their last nine trips to Manchester City in the Premier League.

Manchester City have won three of their last four final day games in the Premier League.

Southampton have ended the campaign with a 1-1 draw in the last two seasons.

Only one of Graziano Pelle’s 12 PL goals this season has come away from home.

Hat-trick hero Sadio Mane has not scored in consecutive Premier League appearances since January.

Sergio Aguero has scored 25 goals and assisted eight more in 32 Premier League appearances this season.

Aguero has been substituted 12 times this season which is a record low for him in a Premier League campaign. Overall he has been taken off 60 times in 102 starts.

City are the only team not to draw 0-0 this season. They are almost certain to be the top scoring team in the Premier League for the third time in the last four campaigns.

David Silva has already scored more league goals this season (12) than the previous two campaigns combined (11).

Newcastle United v West Ham United

Newcastle have lost only one of their last 11 Premier League games versus West Ham at St James’ Park (W5 D5).

West Ham have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five PL matches against the Magpies.

Newcastle are on the longest current final day winless run in the Premier League (seven games).

The last time Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League, the final day games were played on May 24, Hull faced Man Utd and Sunderland played Chelsea.

West Ham have conceded at least two goals on the final day in each of the last three seasons.

Sam Allardyce has won just two of his last 15 Premier League games (D5 L8).

20 Frenchmen have scored for Newcastle in the history of the Premier League, the joint-most along with Arsenal.

West Ham have ended the season with a negative goal difference in all 18 Premier League seasons they’ve featured in before this season. Heading into the final day at Newcastle they are on minus one, so a win of any kind would end the run.

Newcastle have taken one point from their last 10 Premier League games.

If Newcastle avoid relegation it will be their lowest points total in a season in which they were not relegated (since the 3pts for a win rule was introduced).

Stoke City v Liverpool

Liverpool have won their last three games against Stoke City, this after winning just two of their previous 10 in the Premier League (D5 L3).

Jonathan Walters has scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances versus Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium (four goals).

Liverpool have lost their last two away games on the final day (1-0 at Swansea in 2012, 1-0 at Villa in 2011).

Steven Gerrard has assisted only one Premier League goal this season, his lowest total since recording zero in his debut campaign in 1998-99.

Gerrard has scored 50 away goals in the Premier League, and this match will be his 250th away appearance in the competition.

Gerrard is currently Liverpool’s top scorer in the league with eight goals this season.

The last season where Liverpool had no players reaching 10+ league goals was 2004-05 (Milan Baros, 9).

If Gerrard ends as Liverpool’s top scorer on eight goals it will be the lowest top scorer total Liverpool have recorded in the Premier League era.

Former Reds icon Peter Crouch has only scored twice in 15 Premier League appearances against Liverpool.

Between 1973 and 1991 Liverpool finished in the top two for 18 out of 19 seasons, but they have done it only three times in 24 campaigns since then.
