Romelu Lukaku: Future under the spotlight

Romelu Lukaku: Future under the spotlight

Dave Tindall is tipping Romelu Lukaku and Olivier Giroud to continue their goalscoring heroics and bank more profits this weekend.

The weekly column successfully returned a 50/1 acca last month.

Premier League Top Scorers

14 Jamie Vardy (Leicester) Last 6 in all comps: 0-1-1-1-1-0 = 4

11 Romelu Lukaku (Everton) Last 6 games: 1-1-1-2-1-1 = 7

10 Riyad Mahrez (Leicester) Last 6 games: 3-0-0-0-2-1 = 6

8 Odion Ighalo (Watford) Last 6 games: 1-1-0-0-2-0 = 4

8 Harry Kane (Tottenham) Last 6 games: 0-0-1-2-1-1 = 5

8 Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) Last 6 games: 3-1-0-0-1-0 = 5

Analysis: Jamie Vardy might now have come back down to earth while, despite a treble last weekend, Leicester team-mate Riyad Mahrez is passed by for the home game against Chelsea as he does the vast majority of his scoring on the road (eight of his last nine goals have come away from the King Power Stadium).

So, turn to another hat-trick hero and back Olivier Giroud at odds-against to find the net at struggling Aston Villa on Sunday. With four goals in his last two games, his confidence is high.

Romelu Lukaku also has to be followed having netted in each of his last six games. The Belgian has another obvious chance to extend his streak when Everton travel to Norwich on Saturday lunchtime. Note that nine of Lukaku’s 14 goals in all competitions this season have come on the road.

Best bets:

Olivier Giroud to score anytime v Aston Villa at 11/10 (Hills, Bet Victor)
Romelu Lukaku to score anytime v Norwich at 7/5 (General)

Championship Top Scorers

11 Andre Gray (Burnley) Last 6 games: 0-1-0-2-2-0 = 6

10 Ross McCormack (Fulham) Last 6 games: 0-1-0-1-1-1 = 5

9 Nick Blackman (Reading) Last 6 games: 0-0-0-0-0-0 = 0

9 Jordan Rhodes (Blackburn) Last 6 games: 0-1-0-0-1-0 = 2

Analysis: Well, none of the division’s top scorers found the net last time out and neither did the four players on eight goals.

However, the fixtures suggest the smart move is to turn to the tried and trusted Ross McCormack. He (and Fulham) may have struggled on the road lately, but McCormack still loves the home games. Of his 12 goals this season, eight have come in front of his own fans and he’s struck in each of the last three matches at Craven Cottage. He can net again when Brentford visit on Saturday.

Best bets:

Ross McCormack to score anytime v Brentford at 13/8 (Sky Bet, Ladbrokes)

Ross McCormack

League One Top Scorers

13 Adam Armstrong (Coventry) Last 6 games: 1-0-0-2-2-0 = 5

10 Paddy Madden (Scunthorpe) Last 6 games: 0-0-1-0-0-2 = 3

9 Leon Clarke (Bury) Last 6 games: 0-0-1-0-1-1 = 3

9 Tom Bradshaw (Walsall) Last 6 games: 0-1-1-1-0-0 = 3

8 Nicky Ajose (Swindon) Last 6 games: 2-0-1-1-1-0 = 5

Analysis: Adam Armstrong hasn’t scored away from home since August so is easily passed over with Coventry travelling to Sheffield United, while Paddy Madden has just one goal in his last five.

Tom Bradshaw is doubtful with an ankle injury so let’s turn to Nicky Ajose, who has five goals in his last five games. Swindon have found some form with three wins in their last four and Ajose is way too big at 12/5 to net at home to mid-table Rochdale.

Best bet:

Nicky Ajose to score v Rochdale at 12/5 (Paddy Power)

Nicky Ajose

League Two Top Scorers

15 Jay Simpson (Leyton Orient) Last 6 games: 1-1-2-0-0-0 = 4

12 Matty Taylor (Bristol Rovers) Last 6 games: 3-0-1-1-2-0 = 7

10 Barry Corr (Cambridge) Last 6 games: 0-1-0-1-0-0 = 2

10 Jabo Ibehre (Carlisle) Last 6 games: 0-1-1-0-0-0 = 2

10 Josh Windass (Accrington) Last 6 games: 0-1-1-0-1-1 = 4

Analysis: After picking up the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month for November, Jay Simpson can continue his goalscoring spree by adding to his league-high tally of 15.

His Leyton Orient side travel to Mansfield, who are unreliable at home. The 7/4 about another Simpson strike certainly appeals.

However, the acca bet is Bristol Rovers’ Matty Taylor. He’s bagged six goals in his latest three home games, including a hat-trick last time out, and Rovers host a York side who have shipped 20 goals on the road.

Best bets:

Jay Simpson to score anytime v Mansfield at 7/4 (Sky Bet, Ladbrokes)
Matty Taylor to score anytime v York at 5/4 (Ladbrokes, Betfair)

Best-priced goalscorer acca (one from each division):

Lukaku, McCormack, Ajose & Taylor at 41/1 (Sky Bet, Ladbrokes)
