Sunderland eye move for Spurs star Dembele

Dembele, 28, failed to earn a regular starting spot in Tottenham’s central midfield in the second half of last season, with Mauricio Pochettino preferring the partnership of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason instead.

The Belgium international has failed to fulfill his undoubted potential since moving from Fulham for £15million in August 2012 but remains a fans’ favourite at White Hart Lane.

The problem for Dembele is that he has failed to find his best position during his time in north London, with Pochettino trying him centrally, out wide and even in the number 10 role – which is arguably where someone of his ability to beat players should be playing.

Sunderland captured Younes Kaboul from Spurs last week, while Black Cats striker Jermain Defoe scored 90 Premier League goals in two separate spells at White Hart Lane.
