Stadium of Light: Ticket price reductions for Sunderland fans

Sunderland have announced season-ticket price reductions at the Stadium of Light for next season.

The cost of an adult season ticket will start from £350, which averages at £18 per game in the top flight, and would still compare favourably if the Black Cats are relegated to the Championship.

The announcement comes amid widespread furore over the rising cost of Premier League match tickets. Sunderland found themselves at the sharp end of the recent protests earlier this month when thousands of home fans left their game at Liverpool early following an announcement of rising prices.

Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne said: “Keeping the cost of watching football at a realistic level is something that is very topical at present, but for us it has always been top of our agenda.

“We know that the fans are what make this football club great and we hope that as many fans as possible will continue to have the opportunity to come to games and support the team.”

Sunderland, who are 19th in the Premier League standings, are the second top-flight team to announce wholesale price reductions for next season. West Ham will also reduce prices following their move to the Olympic Stadium.
