Tension ensues as Humphrey makes awkward Gerrard slip joke
BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey has come under fire for making a joke about slipping – while on air with Steven Gerrard.
We all know of the incident in question, but for those who need reminding, Gerrard slipped in the match between Liverpool and Chelsea in the 2013-14 season run-in, allowing the Blues to take the lead in a match they subsequently won 2-0.
Manchester City pipped the Reds to the title that season, arguably their best opportunity to end their long title drought.
New BT pundit Gerrard compared the pressure on Chelsea’s current team to that which his Liverpool side eventually succumbed to in 2014.
Humphrey interjected wittily with: “Talking of slips!”
Haha Jake Humphrey just went there…. 'Talking of slips'… Don't think Gerrard was happy with it ????????????. Well done @mrjakehumphrey pic.twitter.com/iDoI7RUuMU

There was evident tension in the studio despite the former England midfielder’s attempts to steer conversation away from the quip.
Humphrey later claimed the comment was nothing to write about, insisting that Gerrard “has a thicker skin than that”.
Liverpool’s run without a title now stands at 26 seasons, and Stevie G must be wondering if the joke will ever go away…
