Thomson to miss Motherwell clash

The 18-year-old full-back missed Saturday’s 1-0 win at Falkirk with a knee problem and is also likely to sit out the game and Sunday’s Edinburgh derby with Hibernian.

Ian Black returns after a three-match ban for his red card in the chaotic defeat at Hamilton, but Laryea Kingston (hamstring), Calum Elliot (knee), Jason Thomson (hamstring), Jamie MacDonald (ankle) and Andrew Driver (knee) remain sidelined.

The Tynecastle clash will be subject to a 2pm pitch inspection on Wednesday to assess supporter safety and accessibility.

The pitch was playable on Tuesday afternoon but Hearts staff are clearing ice and snow and laying salt around the stadium. The club are expecting a delivery of salt supplies on Wednesday morning.
