Victor Wanyama has reportedly told Tottenham to give him a new contract amid talk of a summer switch to Manchester United or Liverpool.

United and Liverpool are both on the hunt for new central midfielders, with Jose Mourinho set to lose Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, while Emre Can is expected to leave Anfield on a free transfer.

The German star is wanted by several of Europe’s top clubs but it is believed that a deal with Juventus is already done.

As for United, Carrick is expected to retire and take up a coaching role with the club while Fellaini is also set for a free transfer exit – Turkey being his most likely destination.

As a result it would appear that Wanyama is a man in demand, having failed to oust Eric Dier from the holding midfield role at Spurs this season.

The Kenyan was an outstanding presence alongside Mousa Dembele last season but after starting the current campaign with injury he has struggled to win his place back on a regular basis.

Wanyama has, however, been used more in recent weeks due to injuries to Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld that have forced Dier back into a defensive role.

When fit the 26-year-old is still regarded as on the best defensive midfielders in the country and is hoping to earn a new deal to warrant that status, according to the report in the Daily Star.
