Turner excited by new fixtures

Dean Saunders’ first competitive game as manager, after succeeding Paul Cook last month, will be against local rivals Barnsley at the Proact Stadium on August 8.

The Spireites’ first away trip in League One is another big clash against Yorkshire opposition in the shape of neighbours Sheffield United.

Sandwiched in between those two matches is an away tie at Carlisle in the Capital One Cup first round.

Turner is expecting a sell-out for the curtain-raiser against Barnsley, and said: “It’s very exciting when you look at the fixture list for the new season.

“We’ll get right back into the swing of things with derbies against Barnsley and Sheffield United in the first two fixtures.

“We should have a full house for the opening day game against Barnsley, which will be great. Then we go to Sheffield United, which is one of those games you always look forward to.

“Going to Blackpool on a Tuesday night [September 29] is a little bit disappointing for the fans who look forward to spending a weekend there, but other than that we can’t complain about how the fixtures have come out.”
