Jurgen Klopp has told Mario Balotelli to return to Liverpool for pre-season training in July after not being offered a permanent deal by AC Milan.
The 25-year-old, who was not called by Italy coach Antonio Conte for Euro 2016, failed to impress during his season long loan spell with the Rossoneri after struggling for form and fitness.
The former Manchester City striker, who signed with the Reds for £15million in the summer of 2014, scored just four times in his first season at Anfield, before he was sent back to Italy on loan.
The player has expressed his frustration at life at Liverpool and has made no secret of his desire to leave the club, telling Mediaset Premium in May: “I want to stay at Milan. I do not want to return to Liverpool. I was never happy at Liverpool. Plus Milan have the money.”
However, unless his agent Mino Raiola finalises a transfer for his client in the meantime, the player will be expected to report back for pre-season training at Melwood on July 2.
