Ander Herrera: Could leave in the summer

Manchester United could lose midfielder Ander Herrera this summer, according to reports.

The Old Trafford favourite is interesting Atletico Madrid, while he has also been scouted by Juventus, reports the Daily Mail.

Tthe Italian giants are set to lose Paul Pogba in the summer and they have been checking on Herrera, 26, who has been in and out of the United first team.

Herrera, who has made 15 starts, scored twice and made three assists in the Premier League this term, is believed to prefer a switch back to Spain if he is to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder will still have two years of his contract remaining in the summer and he has an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

United paid Bilbao £29million for Herrera in June 2014 and if Atletico or Juve are prepared to match that sum then United would be tempted to offload the player who is not entirely happy with his treatment by Louis van Gaal.

The former Real Zaragoza star has played in various positions since the Dutchman’s arrival at the start of last season. And Herrera, who sees himself as a No. 10, is believed to have become frustrated, although he has not declared his intention to leave the club.

Herrera’s future, and the futures of several United stars, will rest on whether Van Gaal remains in charge beyond the summer
