Manchester United have opened talks with CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa’s representatives, according to reports.

Musa, 23, has been interesting Leicester City and the Foxes are believed to have lodged a £15million bid for the player, but United are now believed to be hot on the trail of the Moscow man.

Weekly Nigerian magazine Sky Sports reports that Louis van Gaal’s men have opened talks with Musa’s London-based agency with a view to completing a deal for the striker, who can also play out wide.

CSKA are believed to be holding out for £18million – a fee that Leicester are unwilling to match – leaving United in pole position for the player who has scored 10 goals in 29 games this season, and 11 in 56 international appearances for Nigeria.

Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri is said to be keen on landing a new forward to supplement his trio of Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki, but after seeing their first offer rejected they will have to up their bid now that United have registered their interest in the player.

Musa has two and a half years remaining on his contract with the Russian club but is said to be keen on a move to England.
