Johannes Eggestein: Linked with Man United switch

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a summer move for highly-rated Werder Bremen youngster Johannes Eggestein.

The 17-year-old forward is yet to make an appearance for the Bundesliga side’s first team, but has been in prolific form for the Bundesliga club’s youth team this term, scoring 22 goals in 16 appearances.

And German publication Weser Kurier claim United are one of a number of club’s interested in signing the Under-18 international, whose current contract runs out at the end of the season.

The report adds the Red Devils sent scouts to watch him score twice in a 3-3 draw against Leipzig on Wednesday.

Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin is keen to secure the youngster on a new deal with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund – as well as United – all hoping to swoop for the player.

On Eggestein’s new contract, Eichen said: “Now is the time to get this done.”

Werder are reportedly considering promoting Eggestein into their first-team set-up in a bid to further convince the player his future is best served at the Weserstadion.
