United ‘set to end Aubameyang chase’, but eye young duo
Manchester United look set for transfer frustration after ‘top target’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reportedly rejected a tentative approach from the club about a £70million summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
The Gabon striker has been in superb form for Dortmund this season, scoring 34 times in 41 appearances including goals against both Tottenham and Liverpool in the Europa League.
He has been on United’s radar for much of the campaign, with papers earlier this week suggesting club officials were willing to pay upwards of £70m to land their man and up to £200,000 a week to land their man.
However, the Daily Mirror claims the former St Etienne frontman has ‘no intention’ of leaving for Old Trafford, with Real Madrid the 26-year-old’s preferred option should he leave Dortmund, leaving United with little option but to turn their attentions elsewhere.
Elsewhere, the Independent report that United are at the front of the queue to woo 16-year-old Real Madrid striker Pedro Ruiz away from the Bernabeu.
Everton, Spurs and Southampton are also interested and all will be watching the player in an under-16 tournament next month.
And the Star carry reports from a Brazilian newspaper that United have made a bid for 18-year-old Palmeiras striker Gabriel Jesus. The article says the player has a £23.5million release clause but United would be able to knock nearly £5million off that price.
