United stars criticised Memphis and Schneiderlin deals

Ronald Koeman: Pondering move for United duo

A number of Manchester United players have privately questioned the signings of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Both Depay and Schneiderlin are expected to leave in the January window after joining United in the summer of 2015, with Louis van Gaal spending just over £50million on the pair.

Neither were able to establish themselves in the first team under the Dutchman, while they have been on the periphery of the squad under his successor, Jose Mourinho.

Depay has been afforded just 134 minutes of competitive action, while Schneiderlin’s three Premier League appearances are comprised of 11 minutes as a substitute.

Both were left at home as the United squad traveled to Ukraine to take on Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League, surely spelling the end to their Old Trafford spells.

According to the Manchester Evening News, senior United players have questioned their place in the squad.

Samuel Luckhurst writes that one player has deemed Schneiderlin “not good enough”, but it is the evaluation of Memphis which is rather more scathing.

“The Dutchman’s decision to arrive for the Under-21s’ February fixture against Norwich in a Rolls-Royce was derided and he was even warned by one of the United senior players who also played that the image he portrayed was unacceptable.

“A source said Memphis, relegated to the juniors a day after his hapless pass instigated the attack from which Chelsea claimed a late equaliser, just did not seem to care,” read the article.
