Louis van Gaal believes that his star goalkeeper David de Gea will be at Old Trafford next season, despite speculation linking him with a move away from Manchester.
De Gea came close to joining Real Madrid last summer but the deadline-day deal broke down at the last minute.
The shot-stopper then signed a new four-year deal with United, with an option to extend for a further year, despite seemingly being keen on a move to the Spanish capital.
The former Atletico Madrid man was voted Sir Matt Busby Fans’ Player of the Year in the recent end of season.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal does not expect the 25-year-old to be leaving the club, but admits anything is possible in the transfer window.
“You can never know but I don’t think so because he is very comfortable here,” Van Gaal said.
“He has said that many, many times, not only to me but also to his colleagues and the fans. And he’s extended his contract. But in the world of football you never know – it can always happen.”
The Spaniard stated in January that he was fully focused on winning trophies with Manchester United, in an interview with Sky Sports.
“In another country, at another club, the fans would not be the same as at Manchester United. They are some of the best in the world, it was unbelievable.”
“I’m happy, I’m enjoying it and I believe in the team. I train every day to be the best goalkeeper in the world, that is my aim.
“I’m not sure who the best is now, but it’s what I want. Also, to win trophies for Manchester United.”
